So, I thought I had a great post written about family and the holidays. I titled it “Holiday Hell”.
I wrote about a memorable Thanksgiving dinner where certain family members showed up with garlic necklaces and sat across from me at the dinner table. I can take a hint. It’s probably me they have a problem with but I wondered why? Could it be the fact that I’m a tiny bit evil and I cast spells on people? But I thought I apologized for that one Vodoo Doll incident. Then, it dawned on me. Apparently, they’re a little concerned that “Ahmed the dead terrorist” was my second cousin. Do I have to apologize for him too?
I asked my husband to read it before I posted it. To my dismay, he said, “You can’t talk about my family.”
“I can’t?” I stared at him in shock. “But I ran out of material about my family?” He walked away and mumbled, “You need an attitude adjustment.”
Oh My Goodness!! He’s such a genius. That’s exactly what I need for the Holidays, a new ATTITUDE!
I love the cooking, the shopping, the decorating, the extra weight I put on from eating everything in sight, the stress and especially the cleaning, my favorite.
Honestly and truly, I look forward to the Holidays. Starting with Thanksgiving and my mother-in-laws turkey and stuffing to the look on my kids faces when they wake up on Christmas morning and run downstairs to check what Santa brought them. Yes, even at their age. Although Santa overslept last year, it was still fun.
People lost the true meaning of the holiday celebrations and why we celebrate Christmas. We get so sucked into the commercial aspect of the holidays and the stress of it all that we forget how lucky we are to be healthy and to have our loved ones with us. Let’s count our blessings!
This year, I will be heading a Marine Toys For Tots Drive in memory of our Hero,”Kyle Weston Wilks” killed in Afghanistan. I hope you will join me by donating or spreading the word and help make a child’s Christmas merry. What is the special gift you will give this holiday season to make someone else’s Christmas a better one?
